Medical Scribe

October 2018 • Cumberland, MD

What I liked

I loved the variety of cases that I have seen within the department.

What I wish was different

I wish I worked with more providers during the course of training so I could better personalize charts for them

Advice

If you're on the pre-med track, take it all in. Everything from medication names and different medical conditions are good to see!

June 2018 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I liked that they were willing to work with my school schedule once classes started back up. I also liked that they were willing to allow me days off prior to exams.

What I wish was different

Organization. There seems to be disfunction in the organizational component when it comes to chief scribes and scribes.

Advice

If healthcare is your career path, this is an excellent job to have. I was told to take a tech job over the summer, however that did not peak my interest. By being a scribe, I feel as if I learn more about what my provider is thinking and why, how my patients are feeling regarding symptoms, and medications to be prescribed. It gives me an overLl understanding as to what needs to be done to care for a patient. Granted, the information learned is not specifically nursing related, however, I believe it prepares me for the next step which would include being a nurse practioner.

What I liked

As I am pre-med, this job has given me the opportunity to write medical charts for patients and follow around doctors and physician assistants. I get to look at test results and learn about the medical decision making process. I have learned so much!

What I wish was different

I only wish the company was more organized.

Advice

I would like to advise people to try and find a job during the summer that reflects on what you would like to do with your future career/degree.

June 2019 • Bay Shore, NY

What I liked

The experience in the clinical field and the education of medicine.

What I wish was different

The salary; I feel that the amount of stress and responsibility the job encompasses is disproportional to the amount of pay that we receive.

Advice

The experience is very valuable and a great insight to how the ED operates. I would recommend this to anyone with remote aspirations in pursuing a career in medicine.

What I liked

Helpful instructors and supportive managers. Efficient communication.

Medical Scribe

June 2017 - October 2018 • Berkeley, CA

What I liked

It’s a great way to gain insight to what a physician does on a day to day basis. If you’re pre-med I highly recommend being a medical scribe because you get to shadow doctors, essentially have access to phycians who can become monitors, and learn endless amounts of medical information.

Associate Chief Scribe

November 2018 • Plano, TX

What I liked

Healthcare experience was extremely valuable for med school applications.

What I wish was different

The company management leaves a lot to be desired. I have explained more in my advice section. Ultimately, this company does not and will not care about you. They will not offer appropriate compensation for the workload they place on you, and in many cases our pay has been decreased by small amounts for unclear reasons.

Advice

Do not work for this company if you can avoid it. They hold unrealistic expectations of their team leadership and will never offer fair compensation for it. Being an associate Chief Scribe, I was expected to take charge of online training, obtaining hospital credentials, classroom training, floor training, hiring/interviewing, and scheduling all for $13.50 an hour. With the rise of the COVID-19 crisis, our workload has increased exponentionally. We have had little to no instruction from corporate about how to protect ourselves and any measures we have taken have been the act of our local team leadership consulting with physicians. This company does not and will not care about you. Avoid them if at all possible.
