Animal Care Instructor 

Salary commensurate with experience and education level (Range $40,000-$45,000)

As an Animal Instructor you will be responsible for providing high quality classroom instruction and practical hands-on instruction during the externship portion of the program (Abandoned Pet Rescue). This person will need to prepare relevant assignments, document student progress, accountability, and issues, and perform a variety of other tasks which promote the overall support of student academic success through expert instruction. The Animal Care Instructor will utilize lesson plans and activities for each class provided within the established and approved Animal Care curriculum.

What does an Animal Care Instructor do?

  • Teach general Animal Care skills and techniques including but not limited to: Animal identification & behavior Safety & first aid; Grooming, training, and careers in animal care.
  • Monitor students, provide feedback, and administer Practical Skills Assessments (PSAs).
  • Participate in ongoing growth and development of pedagogy and curriculum within the Animal Care.
  • Consistently tracks and remains current with emerging Animal Care standards and practice. Covets, initiates and maintains professional networks with industry leaders nationally and locally through community outreach, business associations, social media and the like.

What are the requirements?

  • Associates degree required.
  • Classroom teaching experience of at least one year or more in an educational setting, college, vocational/technical school or other nonprofit agency required.
  • Experience of at least one year or more working in a veterinary clinic/office, animal shelter, groomer, boarding facility or related establishment required.
