Entry-Level Environmental Scientist or Intern
Mid-Level Environmental Scientist
Scalar Consulting Group is looking to fill Entry-Level Environmental Scientist positions in our South Florida office. This is a full-time position; part-time internship positions will also be considered.
Overview of Responsibilities:
- Collect, analyze, and report data related to biological natural sciences such as habitats, wildlife, water quality, soils, etc.
- Conduct habitat mapping and characterization field efforts
- Field delineate wetlands in accordance with federal and state criteria
- Conduct protected floral and faunal surveys
- Collect, analyze, and report data on potential contamination and hazardous materials
- Collect data required for natural resource permit applications
- Complete permit applications
- Use ArcMap GIS for data collection, analysis, and compilation of exhibits for reports
- Assist the firm in other capacities when needed, such as with internet and phone call data gathering, public involvement activities, and other tasks as needed
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- Minimum 4-year college level degree in biology, environmental science, or equivalent science-based degree (anticipated degree date for internship opportunity).
- 0-4 years of experience
- Ability to travel to regional work locations and field assignments.
- Proficiency in the skills and responsibilities below.
Abilities
- Knowledge of Florida’s ecological communities and classifications, floral and faunal species.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, ArcMap GIS proficiency preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to transition between multiple work assignments on a regular basis, and sense of urgency to meet client deadlines.
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
- Ability to work in Florida’s challenging outdoor environment.
