Parks Manager (Equine and Educational Farm) - Tradewinds Park and Stables

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Parks Manager (Equine and Educational Farm) at Tradewinds Park and Stables.

Position Overview
The Parks Manager (Equine and Educational Farm) is responsible for overseeing the Tradewinds Park Educational Farm and Equine Stables Operation. The Educational Farm is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation including, but not limited to, upgrades to the equine amenities, and new livestock facilities.
The Parks Manager (Equine and Educational Farm) manages a team of up to 18 personnel, and is responsible for directing, managing, and overseeing all activities of the educational farm and equine stables area of operation. Specific duties include the daily care of horses and livestock, monitoring animal health, coordinating veterinary and farrier care, managing animal diets, evaluating and selecting animals for the program, overseeing animal training and behavior management. This position also includes the leading and coordinating of public trail rides, and other horsemanship activities, providing public farm tours and some agriculture programs, and coordinating equine, farm and agricultural themed special events.
The park currently houses 32 equines and is home to a working farm including two pigs, two cows, and several chickens, goats and sheep. The equines are divided into five pastures. Additionally, the park boasts a trail system for equines only.
General Description
Performs management duties associated with regional parks, neighborhood parks, and/or nature centers. This classification is distinguished from the position of Parks Manager, Associate by an increased level of operational and management responsibility for multiple regional and/or neighborhood parks and/or nature centers, park size, the complexity and types of programs, event, and amenities being managed, the number of subordinate staff supervised, and the years of experience required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in parks and recreation management, zoology, equine studies, animal sciences, hospitality management, public administration, business administration, environmental sciences, engineering or closely related field.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires three (3) years in managing park operations or natural area management or closely related experience based upon area of assignment - Barn/Farm/Ranch Management including one (1) year of supervisory experience. And must posses horse riding experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Preferences
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Master's Degree with major coursework in parks and recreation management, zoology, equine studies, animal sciences, hospitality management, public administration, business administration, environmental sciences, engineering or closely related field.
4+ years of horse riding experience.
2+ years of livestock animal care and farm operations.
2+ years of agricultural practices experience.
CPRP and/or CPPRE.
Crowd Control Manager Certification.
Ability to speak foreign language (including but not limited to Spanish, French/Creole, Portugese).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Manages day-to-day park operations to include program implementation, staff support and supervision, customer service, facilities maintenance and security, and compilation of various operational reports related to safety, attendance, personnel issues, revenue, and inventory.
Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates employees; establishes performance goals and objectives in alignment with the Division's strategic plan.
Ensures compliance with directives, policies, procedures, laws, contracts, agreements and health and safety standards as it pertains to a park operation within a governmental agency.
Plans, organizes, implements and supervises major recreational programs and large special events including education for leisure activities, athletics, tournaments, festivals, concerts, fairs and expositions, based on area of assignment.
Works with organized groups and individuals to assess community-wide program needs and interests, formulate new programs, develop additional amenities, and support agency goals.
Supervises the volunteer program as site coordinator; develops volunteer opportunities.
Manages concession facilities to include: ordering and inventorying food and purchasing equipment, based on area of assignment.
Reviews and approves, requisitions for materials and supplies for park operations and maintenance.
Maintains park budgets and records of revenue and expenditures.
Explains and interprets rules and regulations, fees and charges.
Responds to incidents within the park and prepares narrative reports of incidents; enforces or refers enforcement to proper authorities.
Responds to park patron issues, complaints, comments and requests - listens, explains policies and procedures, resolves issues, and follows up as appropriate.
Conducts periodic inspections of all park areas and facilities; observes deficiencies in operation, safety, and condition; issues verbal or written directives to correct deficiencies; reviews subordinate reports.
Communicates with managers/supervisors, administrative staff, volunteers and the public in a positive and professional manner.
Maintains professional and positive relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and stakeholders.
Performs related work as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 25 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, and up to 50 pounds on occasion, with skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office equipment or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to animals/wildlife.
