Intern - Summer Education Program

This paid, project-based internship opportunity will last 10 weeks. The position is part time and hours are flexible, up to 27 hours per week.

Intern will define and implement a specific project during a 10-week summer session that produces a result by a given date that is of significant interest to the host department. The project--including specific targets, timeline, milestones reflecting needed progress, and yardsticks to be used to verify achievement--will be defined and approved by the intern's mentor before implementation. In most cases, the intern will present their findings to County leadership as a final step in the internship.

Job Description
Position and Results:

This position is a project-based intern in the Parks & Natural Resources Department working on a project to assist with our summer education program and work with our program manager to redesign our summer field trip process. Over the span of 10 weeks, the intern will assist with the creation of an internal procedure and marketing package for Department-led field trips in Manatee County’s Parks and Preserves. The intern will assist with the alignment of current education and recreation opportunities with relevant Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. The project – including specific targets, timeline, milestones reflecting needed progress, and yardsticks to be used to verify achievement – will be defined and developed by the intern with their mentor before implementation. In summary, the intern will present their findings to County leadership as a final step in the internship.

Job Duties:

  • Able to assist with our summer education program including outdoor summer camps and field trips.
  • Represent Manatee County in a proactive, professional manner always.
  • Work with Program Manager to redesign our Field Trip process, both internally and externally, by developing a Field Trip Activity Guide, marketing materials, and an internal reservation procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Completing short-term departmental projects within a specific period. Facilitating fresh solutions to ongoing issues such as ways to streamline processes or eliminate backlog. This intern will assist with our summer education program including outdoor summer camps and field trips. As a final project, this intern will work with our Program Manager to redesign our Summer Field Trip process by developing a Field Trip Activity Guide, marketing materials, and an internal reservation procedure. 
Minimum Qualifications
Intern II Requirements:
Enrolled Freshman or Sophomore in university. Valid driver's license may be required.

Intern III Requirements:
Enrolled and pursuing bachelor's degree or recent graduate of no more than six months prior to start date. Valid driver's license may be required.
