Intern, Advocacy and Communications (Vaccine Acceptance & Demand)

Reports to: Senior Manager, Communications (Vaccine Acceptance & Demand)
 
Location: Washington, DC; Option to Work Remotely (only in FL, MD, MA, NE, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, VA, WA, DC)

The Advocacy and Communications Intern will support a variety of the Vaccine Acceptance & Demand Team’s advocacy-related partnerships and activities.
 
Responsibilities:
Advocacy and Communications
  • Partner with Senior Manager, Communications to develop and implement a suite of social media content, including graphics and other promotional materials
  • Monitor potential advocacy and journalism opportunities on vaccines and immunization in low- and middle-income countries; develop calendar and weekly synthesis of opportunities for program to consider
  • Represent Sabin at relevant advocacy or communications coalitions/meetings/webinars and identify program opportunities
  • Assist team members in planning and implementing remote and in-person workshops, meetings and webinars
Program Support
  • Assist with team and collaborating partner meetings, including preparing materials and drafting minutes
  • Assist with tracking stories produced by journalists engaged with the program and advocacy and learning activities of health workers, as well as testimonials of program participants
  • Work with team members to track program outreach
  • Provide background research, copyediting, formatting and document and presentation management, as assigned
  • Other administrative duties, as assigned
 
Requirements:
  • Current college student in a related discipline
  • Relevant coursework or experience, preferably in global health, public health, social science, journalism/media training or international relations/development 
  • Demonstrated communications, social media or website assistance experience
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word), Adobe Acrobat, Zoom video conferencing and conducting internet searches
  • Experience with graphic creation platforms such as Canva, Spark or InDesign a plus
  • Demonstrated success drafting, proofreading and editing complex documents
  • Close attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, flexible and able to prioritize in order to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills (listening, writing, speaking)
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Available for 5-15 hours per week during the Fall 2021 semester
