SYSTEMS TECH

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs various tasks designed to insure effective computer system maintenance and support in the City Information Technology Department. Work involves supporting City computer equipment, including instruction, problem analysis and resolution, and component configuration and installation. Diagnoses and resolves operational problems in programs and software for the City's computers, including network functions. Performs PC hardware/software troubleshooting, component level repair, upgrades, maintenance and user training. Employee is also responsible for advising and training users, installing hardware and software, and reviewing available computer equipment and software to make recommendations for acquisition. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in all phases of work. Reports to the Systems Analyst. Employees may be asked to work evenings, weekends, or holidays (including religious holidays).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Installs and configures hardware, operating systems, software feature packages, upgrades and fixes for PCs and network components.
  • Troubleshoots network, PC, and other automation hardware and software problems and provides corrective measures. Coordinates the maintenance and repair of PCs and other related electronic equipment.
  • Provides training for computer users in PC operating systems and desktop applications.
  • Assists in the acquisition, installation, configuration, and maintenance of PC hardware and software including customized setup requirements for City network environment.
  • Assists in analyzing information processing needs and makes recommendations.
  • Performs work for special department projects involving research, analyzing information, and summarizing results.
  • Consults with technical support staff of commercial software vendors to resolve certain user issues.
  • Reviews and tests new computer hardware and software, and makes recommendations concerning acquisitions.
  • Develops user documentation for computer system operation. Ensures adherence to established IT policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
2 to 3 years of experience in a networked information system technical support setting emphasizing customer service; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
****Candidate for this position will be supporting Law Enforcement activities and as such must be able to pass the Florida Criminal Information Center (FCIC) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) background check to gain access to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) network and associated systems and databases.
