Resource Manager Assistant
MDRC is currently seeking resource management assistants to join our K-12 Education and Postsecondary policy area groups, which conduct rigorous research on some of the most critical issues in public and higher education. MDRC is recognized as a national leader in postsecondary education research and technical assistance. Our researchers are at the top of the field and work on multiple large-scale projects for a variety of funders, including the U.S. Department of Education, the New York City Department of Education, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among many other private and public organizations seeking to build evidence and knowledge about important educational issues.
We have two open positions, one in each of the following policy areas:
- K-12 Education. This policy area conducts many evaluations in large school districts, such as New York City, Baltimore City, Los Angeles Unified, and Long Beach Unified. The research focuses on improving the educational opportunities and experiences of people with low incomes by addressing such issues as increasing high school graduation rates, closing racial and economic achievement gaps, and using behavioral principles to improve educational outcomes.
- Postsecondary Education. This policy area conducts research to gauge the impacts of programs designed to help students from low-income backgrounds succeed academically in community colleges and other postsecondary institutions, and provides support for evidence-based program design based on our findings.
Resource management assistants will support the day-to-day management needs of current and potential new projects as well as the policy area, under the direction of a resource manager.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Knowledge and interest in social policy issues is highly desirable. The position provides the successful candidate an opportunity to:
- Support day-to-day policy area resource management
- Organize and participate in management planning meetings and reviews
- Coordinate and prepare management and status reports for resource managers, project directors, and policy area directors
- Collaborate with staff from various departments, including development, fiscal, legal, and human resources to meet project management needs related to fundraising, contract development, financial reporting, invoice payment, and staff recruitment and hiring
- Assist with creating project management how-to guides and tools under the direction of a resource manager
- Develop project update memos/reports summarizing work plan progress
- Track and manage current and potential proposal opportunities
- Coordinate the proposal development process and assist with the creation of proposal materials
- When needed, serve as a member of project teams providing generalist research assistant support such as participating in project task meetings, coordinating publication development, fact-checking, summarizing literature searches, participating in site visits, and collecting evaluation information
Prospective candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- BA/BS in nonprofit management, public administration, public policy, social science, or a related field
- Demonstrated interest in social policy issues
- Understanding of research and evaluation processes
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask and work efficiently
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to collaborate and work with diverse program teams
- Excellent written, oral, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills
- Comfort working in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
Compensation and benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits and relocation assistance offered. Some on-the-job training will be provided.
Location: The position will be based in MDRC’s New York City office, but we anticipate remote work through October 2021.
