Southwire SPEED Internship

Description

Southwire Internship Program focuses on curating unique, personal, and professional development experiences. We are invested in providing an multi-dimensional experiential learning journey to interns by providing them with a real-world environment where they can build skills and develop competencies to prepare them for full time employment in their desired career path. This program will allow students to gain experience working in a business/manufacturing environment while maintaining their academic commitments.
This is a two-year experiential rotation that will offer hands on developmental opportunities for high performing students within our SPEED team. Students will spend 1 year in a logistics role and 1 year in an operations role to maximize the learning experience.





 

Logistics

 
Summary:
Responsible for supporting order monitoring for on-time delivery, report preparation, and projects related to the growth of Speed. Data entry and Excel analysis to distribute to stakeholders to improve decision making.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Run analysis reports utilizing BI for Excel to aid in monitoring orders
  • Review and validate estimated completion dates using Speed email group and other available resources
  • Aid in dashboard and reporting preparation to allow for deeper analysis by Speed team
  • Competitor data collection to assist in market share and capability monitoring
  • Conducting surveys and interviews with CSC and Plant personnel to identify areas to improve growth
  • Manage orders and the tracking logs for Speed orders
  • Respond to emails same day.
  • Manage individual projects and keep managers up to date throughout the progress
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Operations

 
Summary:
Projects for this intern with develop out of the Operations Process Manager’s top areas of execution: Developing and implementing SPEED manufacturing strategies, acting as the SPEED liaison between sales, product management, and the manufacturing teams, establishing the true cost to manufacture SPEED orders, and overseeing part number creation for SPEED orders.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continue to improve the costing calculator and work with the manufacturing teams to develop the most accurate compensation process
  • Engage operations finance and utilize system enhancements to improve the SPEED costing process
  • Communicate with each new manufacturing facility the costing process and gather needed feedback for the plant to reallocated appropriate costs.
  • Take the costing tools and cross train the SPEED team to use
  • Monitor and track the allocation of capacity with detail, acceptance and visibility in multiple plants and product categories
  • Monitor and track the inventory and usage levels of the component inventory strategies once established
  • Showcase the areas where SPEED strategies are properly executed, so the wins can be effectively communicated to agents, outside teams, etc.
  • Work with the operations process manager to take needs and plans from the sales/PM side to the plant. Bring back limitations, changes, and planned strategies. Presenting clearly in both directions.
