Racial Justice Intern

Organization and Opportunity Background:
Trinity Church Wall Street is a growing and inclusive Episcopal community in Lower Manhattan that seeks to serve and heal the world through a wide range of ministries and programs. Our work is grounded in our core values of faith, integrity, inclusiveness, compassion, social justice and stewardship. The intern will work with the Church’s Racial Justice initiative of the Grants & Mission Investing (GMI) team. The GMI team at Trinity Church Wall Street uses the tools of philanthropy, our convening power, and our voice to advance Trinity’s mission goals. In addition to the Duties & Responsibilities with the GMI Team, the intern will participate in Trinity summer internship program activities.
 
Duties & Responsibilities will likely include:
·      Research and write short memos about current topics and trends related to reforming the criminal legal system, and/or community-based alternatives;
·      Research potential grantees of the Racial Justice initiative;
·      Attending meetings and informational events related to grant-making priorities, taking notes, and reporting back on topics that are highly relevant to the Racial Justice initiative strategy; and
·      Reviewing grantee reports and communications and extracting information for team updates, publications, and/or grant recommendations.
 
Skills
·      Individuals with lived experience with the criminal, juvenile, or immigration legal systems are strongly encouraged to apply;
·      Excellent analytical and writing skills;
·      A strong interest in racial justice, specifically ending cycles of mass incarceration
·      A commitment to the Church’s mission;
·      A collegial work style and a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks.
