Membershi/Development Intern

Welcomed through the Citi Foundation Museum Management Internship program, the Development/Membership Intern will work collaboratively across key administrative departments to learn about best practices in financing and fundraising for the Museum field while performing project-based tasks and participating in daily business operations. The goal of the program is to introduce bright talents to multiple career paths within the non-profit world. For that purpose, the Development-Membership Intern will be introduced to 3 distinct roles within the department: Fundraising/Event Planning, Corporate Sponsorship, and Membership. There is no direct course of study for the ideal candidate, but the applicants should have passion for community work, art, and an interest in the non-profit world, business, and arts administration. This is an opportunity to learn about the how non-profit organizations finance their operation to serve their mission and vision. This is also a great opportunity to learn about fundraising for non-profit organizations.

Requirements: 

Once a month, interns will take networking field trips to neighboring cultural organizations to hear from their administrators about various institutions’ practices and differentiating factors. They will also have the opportunity to network with PAMM employees and learn about career paths through brown bag lunch meetings.

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Internship will provide an active training ground for participants to gain new skills and knowledge of arts administration to apply to future employment in museums and cultural institutions.

This is a paid internship opportunity gracefully supported by Citi Foundation for a total of 320 hours with a flexible schedule of about 18h/week starting in January. The internship will start remotely, but the applicants must be available to work on-site in Miami as needed.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will explore development career tracks in the museum world.
  • Students will learn about various fundraising tasks and skills for non-profit organization.
  • Students will gain understanding of how the financial and logistical needs or an arts organization are reached through donations, fundraising, donor relations, visitor services and membership programs.
  • Students will have the opportunity to network and learn about career paths in the Museum.
 
Essential Qualifications:

  • College/University Senior or Recent Graduate with a degree in Business, Museum Studies, Nonprofit Management, Art, Communications, Hospitality, or related fields.
  • Strong written English skills.
  • Strong interest in the cultural world.
  • Strong interest in research and administration.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Academic knowledge or practical experience in performing the essential functions listed below. 
  • Flexibility and curiosity with assignments
  • Pride and initiative in one’s work
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer skills and ability to learn software.
  • Must be a Florida resident.
 
Essential Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Help support Major Gifts Associate or Membership Manager with data creation, event planning/marketing, fundraising, and membership reports from the database.
  • Research and enter prospect and organizations information onto Altru.
  • Run list, reports, and donation amounts upon request.
  • Work closely with the Development assistant on processing, documentation and acknowledgement of all gifts.
  • Assisting with planning and executing in special events for the Museum.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Finger dexterity to pick up paper and use computer keyboard.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
