About the Position:

The Student Resource Specialist is responsible for providing a broad range of services to 11th and 12th grade collegiate high school students. This includes academic support, career development, assistance with financial aid and scholarship opportunities, testing administration, assistance with community resources, classroom instruction on life skills, academic achievement, and other services that promote overall student success. This position is located on Polk State's Lakeland campus and collaborates with alternative student services program staff and faculty throughout the College.

Essential Functions/Duties:

• Works collaboratively with high school faculty to develop strategies to improve student performance.
• Introduces students to resources and services available throughout the college.
• Monitors and tracks student progress. This may include interpretation of PERT, ACT, and SAT scores and assisting students with registration for standardized tests. Assists with the administration of standardized tests such as the FCAT, PERT, FSA, EOC, PSAT etc.
• Develops academic goals and provides academic guidance and support.
• Works collaboratively with other departments to facilitate and address student needs. Provide support for students experiencing family, personal, or economic challenges which may impact school performance. May help students locate and access counseling services, support networks, community health, and/or housing services in the community and on campus.
• Advises students on matters relating future career and academic endeavors including career exploration and development, college admissions, scholarships opportunities, financial aid and other student services.
• Assists in all areas of student recruitment for the high school, including participation in recruitment workshops.
• Develops, facilitates, and delivers classroom instruction on various topics such as time management, study strategies, goal setting, learning styles, career planning, and communication skills.
• Creates brochures, orientation materials, forms, and documents for distribution and presentation.
• Facilitates orientation meetings. Makes presentations to schools, community organizations and other groups that may assist in providing services and promoting student enrollment and retention.
• Maintains accurate records related to student information.
• Maintains statistical information and summary information in reports as needed and submits required paperwork according to specified timelines.
• Conceptualize, design, and implement programs which promote personal growth and academic achievement including workshops, seminars, and classroom lessons.
• Coordinates the Executive Intern Program and facilitate the Work Based Learning Program. Work with Guidance Counselor with school wide mentoring initiative.
• Maintain application data base and monitor lottery system.
• Assist with school wide efforts to improve student retention and success. Participate in the school's strategic planning efforts.
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor and/or other divisional staff members. Duties may vary based on the needs of the assigned high school.

This position is a level P13 . To determine starting salary, Polk State College takes into consideration the pay level minimum, the candidate's qualifications and internal equity factors.

Required Skills:

• Experience working with students or clients through advising, counseling, coaching, and developing goals.
• Experience assessing student needs and coordinating educational and community-based services to address those needs.
• Experience managing caseload and case files or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Demonstrated skills in making public presentations and teaching or training diverse groups.
• Must be able to travel within the community using personal transportation. 

Required Education:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Science, Counseling, or related field.

Required Experience:

Requires at least two (2) years of professional, exempt work experience in an educational environment with diverse populations.
