Intern Job Description

Position Title: Project / Construction Management Assistant Intern

Department:   Public Works

Supervisor/Mentor: Public Works Director or designee

Hours:   Unpaid position. Hours dependent on course requirements

Summary of Position:
The intern will assist with all aspects of the Public Works Department, focusing on business management development.

Essential job functions:
  • Observe construction project for conformance to plans and specifications
  • Read construction plans and specifications
  • Prepare daily reports, including daily progress reports
  • Maintain files and records pertaining to project
  • Provide customer service to the public
  • Assist with public outreach

Knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office 2010 and Internet

Learning Goals
  
  • Learn the varied duties and job functions of the PW/Program & Project Management Division and the PW/Operations divisions and how each duty and function assist with City goals. 
  • Develop a working knowledge of managing a variety of Public Works situations simultaneously.
  • Improve business management skills and utilize such skills in the Public Works office environment.
