Intern Job Description

Position Title:  Intern -Marketing/ Graphic Arts Intern- Paid

Department:      Public Works Department

Supervisor/Mentor: Missie Barletto, Deputy Director Program and Project Management

Dates: Summer 2019: May 29, 2019 – August 2, 2019

Hours:   up to 29 hours per week

Summary of Position:

The Intern will experience a professional environment to assist in marketing and graphic design in the Public Works Department. Assist with creative concepts, shooting video, still photos, and editing. Also assist with websites, designing project-specific brochures, and other projects as assigned.

Essential job functions:
  • Assist in the concept design of marketing materials.
  • Assist with Public Works website
  • Assist with creative concepts, shooting video, still photos, and editing.
  • Assist with statistically significant survey of people on the barrier island concerning the potential to develop a residential parking permit for that area.
  • Design templates for our project-specific brochures and other brochures.
  • Proofread a variety of written communications.
  • Collect and manage a media archive of photography.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics
  • Educational background in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, Art, Media, Public Administration and or related field
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suites and Photoshop.
  • Strong grammar and writing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while completing multiple projects in tandem
  • The ability to communicate and work with others

Learning Goals

  • Knowledge of the City of Delray Beach, its process and goals.
  • Understand the role of the communications position and how the position contributes to public service within the Public Works Department.
  • Identify the different mediums used in community outreach and how it is used in the City of Delray Beach.
  • Identify how other mediums can be used in city government and explain how it could be applied at the City of Delray Beach.
